Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling an opportunity to become a citizen for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
